Colombo has been often neglected by most travellers, as it is considered to be a boring commercial city in the past. However, we see Colombo as a destination which resembles the local history, culture, different lifestyles and most importantly an array of local food. Take a stroll in the city with our insider in Tuk Tuks, enjoy some of the local food representing different cultures and ethnic groups.

Breakfast at the hotel and proceed to Kandy, the last stronghold of the Singhalese kings!

Explore around the Kandy town, the vibrant and colourful markets, visit the Kandy Temple of the Tooth Relic.

This morning, go to a local home in Kandy to engage in a hands-on cooking experience with a local family. Hop into your vehicle to stock up some goodies for your meal – back at the house, learn the art of making the perfect rice and curry in a traditional wooden stove.

Later in the afternoon, meet a Kandyan dancer and drummer and learn about the traditional dancing and drumming culture which is unique to the Kandyan era! You will also get the opportunity to learn the art of playing different types of drums.

Today after breakfast, proceed to a remote, unexplored area of Sri Lanka that is slowly becoming popular among the like minded travellers.
 
On route we visit a traditional weaving village which is one of the oldest and only remaining village dedicated to the hereditary craft of textile weaving. The traditional textile weaver caste inhabits this village still employs an age-old weaving process.
After learning the art of weaving, enjoy a local lunch at a local eatery.
 
“Hela Bojun“ is a concept empowering the women of the village to sell their own Sri Lankan food daily. You may try out the crispy “Vadde“ and some local sweets and savoury items!
 
You will be based in a rustic, yet comfortable accomodation with an excellent team of local guides and not forget the local food!

Early this morning go on a boat safari with your naturalist – the only national park that you can explore by a boat, a picnic breakfast will be arranged on a rock.
 
Later in the afternoon, go on a walk of discovery of the local tribal community – Vaddha’s! Discover and learn about local nature as he brings the forest alive by explaining his tribe’s use of medicinal plants, ancient hunting grounds and cave dwellings, while providing a fascinating insight into how the hunter-gatherers lived in the jungles.

After breakfast, proceed to Ella for a couple of nights in the hill country.

Visit the Little Adam’s peak or Nine arch bridge, the Ella town is famous among most of the travellers, the climate is cooler and the bordering towns are famous for vegetables and tea due its climate. This is also considered as a hiking destination, perfect to sit back and catch up on some reading.

Today, meet a retired tea planter who will take you through the tea fields and many interesting stories about tea and share his life as a tea planter back in the days. Enjoy a private tea tasting experience at the end with some savoury and sweet items, over a cup of tea, just like the old days.

If you feel more adventurous, we suggest a hike to Ella Rock for the sunrise!

Afterwards, we travel to Galle for a couple of nights, it will be a long drive but feel free to make stops for a Thambili or some tea on the way.

This morning we travel to the outskirts of Galle town, further inland, to experience the process of Cinnamon extraction – Sri Lanka boasts the best and most authentic Cinnamon in the world! Afterwards, enjoy a cup of Toddy – the sap of the coconut colour that is quite popular among the locals in the South, go easy on this!

Late in the evening, we visit another local family in Galle for a seafood meal – you have the choice of Fish, crab curry or prawn curry with some local bread and not to forget the Pol Sambol, a famous dish in the Sri Lankan cuisine.
